
On May 13, 2023, the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU) acted on intelligence and led a multi-agency team that resulted in the arrest of 2 suspects for attempting to sell elephant ivory in Nsambya, Uganda. The investigation was supported by the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The traffickers were in possession of the tusks and four were found to have been filled with wax in an effort to increase the weight of the tusks. Total weight for the 7 tusks was 27.2 kgs. and the wax contributed approximately 3 kgs. to the total weight.
