On May 19, 2023, the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU) led a multi-agency investigation near Kampala that resulted in the arrest of 4 suspects, to include the arrest of a local Chairman from the Rubirizi region. Eight elephant tusks, weighing a total of 25 kgs. were seized and examined and it was determined that the tusks came from immature elephants. The suspects originated from the region near Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda.
