On May 25, 2023 the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU) led a successful operation known as Operation BERING. This investigation was a multi-agency operation that resulted in the arrest of 4 suspects who were attemptig to sell one (1) live Ground pangolin as well as two (2) pangolin skins. The four traffickers met near Abim District in northeasterm Uganda. With assistance from the United Police Force, the suspects were arrested and transported to Kampala. The live pangolin was severely dehydrated and is being cared for until it is healthy for release back into the wild.
