On June 1, 2023, the Nigeria Special Wildlife Office (NSWO) acted on intelligence developed by the team that resulted in the arrest of 3 suspects who were offering a baby chimpanzee and one live African civet cat for sale. The baby chimpanzee and civet cat were examined by a veterinarian and taken to the Liberia Chimapnzee Rescue organization for care. One of the suspects arrested was a known wildlife trafficker who had been previously involved in the sale of other live animals.
