On June 6, 2023, operatives with the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU) led a successful multi-agency operation referred to as Operation FURLA. Intelligence acted upon resulted in the arrest of two (2) suspects near Mitooma, in southwest Uganda. The investigation proved challenging as a UPDF soldier and a prominent Resident District Commissioner (RDC) were involved in the syndicate. The RDC suspect was arrested however the UPDF soldier fled prior to arrest. The team met resistence from an angry crowd who threw rocks and smashed windows of the team vehicle.
