Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit’s Operation Armadale: Trafficker Arrested and Pangolin Rescued in a Successful Joint Operation

In a remarkable collaborative effort, the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU) executed Operation Armadale, resulting in the apprehension of a wildlife trafficker and the rescue of a live Ground Pangolin. Coordinated by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Uganda Police Force, the arrest unfolded in Kampala after a meeting with the seller. The trafficker is set to face charges before the Special Wildlife Crime Court. Despite the pangolin being severely dehydrated with minor injuries, dedicated efforts are underway to nurse it back to health, with the ultimate goal of releasing it back into its natural habitat once it can thrive independently. This successful operation highlights Uganda’s commitment to combating wildlife crime and safeguarding its precious biodiversity.
