Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit’s Operation Beg Nets Four Ivory Traffickers

In another victory against wildlife crime, the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU) orchestrated Operation Beg, a well planned multi-agency operation that led to the arrest of four individuals involved in the illicit trafficking of elephant ivory. Undercover operatives from the UWCU posed as buyers, engaging with the traffickers in a strategic location near Kasangati. Negotiations ensued, resulting in the offer to sell approximately 15 kilograms of ivory. Upon apprehension, a thorough search revealed additional contraband, including a large pangolin skin, and resulted in the seizure of the vehicle utilized by the traffickers. This decisive action showcases the UWCU’s unwavering dedication to combating wildlife crime and safeguarding Uganda’s precious natural heritage.
